Timber for lodges and ski resorts
Wide plank brushed oak floors, panelled walls, timber ceilings, beams and stairs, all in one finish and all prefinished at the mill. We've supplied lodges on New Zealand's lakes and rivers, and alpine residences below the Remarkables.

What a lodge asks of its timber
Lodges carry more timber than most hotels. Floors, walls, ceilings, beams and stairs often share one room, so any difference in tone or sheen shows straight away.
They also take hard wear: boots, luggage, open fires and big swings in heating between seasons. That's why we supply engineered boards, glued down. An engineered board moves less than solid timber as the air dries out over winter, and its solid oak wear layer can be sanded and refinished when it needs it.
Wide plank floors
Made to order: planks up to 300 mm wide and 3 m long. Feature and rustic grades, lightly brushed to heavily brushed or rough sawn, with micro, standard or aged bevels.
Walls, ceilings, beams and stairs
Wall panelling and ceiling linings in oak or walnut veneer, in the floor's tone and sheen. At Huka Lodge we supplied the floors, wall panelling and ceiling linings in a single palette.
Decorative and box beams, and structural glulam where certified locally. Treads, risers and nosings kitted to your engineer's design, so the stair reads as part of the floor.

Questions
What's the widest plank you can supply?
Standard planks go up to 260 mm wide and 2.5 m long. Made to order, we supply planks up to 300 mm wide and 3 m long.
Is brushed oak a good choice for a lodge?
Yes. Brushing takes out the soft grain and leaves the hard grain standing, which hides everyday wear. We offer lightly brushed, brushed, heavily brushed and rough-sawn textures.
Should lodge floors be glued down or floated?
Glued down. Floated floors are more likely to move, squeak and sound hollow underfoot, which you notice in a quiet lodge.
Can ceilings, beams and stairs carry the floor's finish?
Yes. They share the floor's species, brushing, gloss and coating, with the tone chosen to complement it.
